Problem:
Bees are critically important for the environment and to the economy. It is estimated that pollinators, including honeybees, bumblebees and wild bees, contribute at least 22 billion EUR each year to the European agriculture industry. They ensure pollination for over 80% of crops and wild plants in Europe.
For some time now, news about a severe loss of honeybees, bumblebees, wild bees and other pollinators has been concerning various professionals and the wider public alike.
Solution:
Let’s BEE is a complex project with an aim to test and demonstrate systemic solutions for modernizing the apiculture sector to increase the sustainability, resilience, and food security/food safety of honey production. Additionally, it aims to increase the pollinator population by using a patented solution for honey extraction, transportation system and sensors analytics.
The innovation potential of Let’s BEE is listed in the following: Ground-breaking objectives, integration of new types of beehives (patented honey frames) with the Let’s Bee platform, and transportation platform Implementation of a Data Lake solution in order to gather the data from beehive IoT sensors. It also looks to contextualize the information in order to prepare valuable reports on quality of the honey produced, as well as the state of IoT/IT infrastructure deployed at the client’s location. Open gate to universities and veterinarians by creating a Central Knowledge Database Novel concept.
